Pounds are off-course accepted though change may come in US$. Menu prices here look expensive until you remember they are in US$ while the rest of the island operates on pounds sterling. I had a great steak here and the pizzas looked good. I also recommend the Volcano Club (pictured above) on the US Military Base – in the style of an American diner food-wise – for dinner. The young chef here is great and regularly catches the fish for dinner himself. After (or indeed before and after) relax in the hotel’s Anchor Bar. As good a meal as you will get anywhere for the price. In terms of the places listed below, the Obsidian Hotel – Sunset Bistro (for dinner – they don’t do lunch) is streaks ahead of the others and its offerings (limited choice menu which does change daily) are amazing given the isolation of the Island. Opening hours are prone to change so do check when you get to Ascension for current hours. While you will not go hungry you do need to be aware that there are a limited number of food outlets on the island and that they have limited and indeed somewhat odd opening hours. You don’t come to Ascension Island for its Michelin starred restaurants, its sidewalk cafes, its Gelatissimos or any other gastronomic indulgences. ![]() ![]() I believe the Solomon’s Two Boats store closed just after my visit in 2013 and no, I did not drink it dry! Alcohol can also be purchased at Solomon’s Georgetown supermarket and the NAAFI shop. All of the establishments covered below under the eating section can adequately meet your alcohol needs as long as they are not to sophisticated with drinking hours significantly longer than eating hours. ![]() Let me firstly deal with drinking (alcohol) as it is easier. If you are on Ascension Island more than 2-3 days you are probably going to partake of all the available options in terms of eating and drinking so I will cover the lot in one review.
